Information Guide on Active Attenuation

Best practice specifications of Active Attenuation System will ensure the rainwater tank, attenuation capacity, and associated filtration devices can easily be accessed for maintenance and cleaning purposes.

Stormsaver Specifications include a maintenance channel running through the centre of the attenuation crates. The control box should be specified with corresponding manhole access to facilitate jet cleaning through the attenuation crates.

Rainwater Harvesting storage tanks connected to attenuation crates can be cleaned using the normal method of cleaning. Once drained, a cleaning operative can enter the tank for cleaning purposes.

Battery backup:
Both the valve and site controller have a built in rechargeable battery pack to allow the system to continue working in the event of power failure. The system can operate as normal for over 2 weeks without an external power supply. Once the power is reconnected the system will automatically recharge the batteries.

Blockage detection:
The system sends automated warning messages in the event that there is a partially or fully blocked.

Automated Emails and SMS warnings:
Emails and SMS messages are automatically sent to all registered phone number/email addresses in the event of any failure/blockage. The email addresses/phone number which require the email/SMS can be programmed at the installation stage.

System Handshake:
The “controller” and “control centre” carry out system handshakes every 5 minutes, ensuring that changes in predicted weather patterns can be updated to the levels of stored water in the system.

Default Storm Attenuation System:
Within all failure scenarios the system defaults back to a Storm Attenuation system (Actuated valve open). The system is designed to first and foremost provide the required storm attenuation in all scenarios.

  • 50% of the attenuation crates will be used for roof runoff.
  • 50% of the attenuation crates will be used for surface runoff.
  • The above two capacities are connected via a high-level overflow with a non-return valve.
  • The roof runoff crates are connected to the rainwater harvesting tank via a low-level balancing pipe.
  • The attenuation crates will be located slightly higher than the rainwater tank so rainwater can drain down into the tank.
