Frequency

Many facility managers who take a proactive approach to safety choose to include a legionella test during their regular service visits.

Service visits occur every six months and provide an ideal opportunity to prevent outbreaks and ensure a healthy environment through regular testing.

Rapid testing

Testing for Legionella is conducted by our specialist engineers using our highly accurate testing kits. These rapid kits can produce precise results in just 25 minutes.

Sensitivity

Our tests can detect the presence of Legionella pneumophila serogroups 1-15.

Tips for minimising legionella risk in system design

Many specifiers choose Stormsaver as our systems minimise the risk of legionella.

Poorly designed rainwater harvesting and greywater recycling systems from inexperienced providers are far more vulnerable to legionella growth. Specifying a system with the right protections is crucial for maintaining public health.

Stormsaver systems include many protective features based on our two decades' worth of experience as a UK manufacturer of these systems. See why below.

Low level tanks

All above-ground rainwater harvesting and greywater recycling tanks should be located at a low level. Tanks located in high-up locations are more susceptible to legionella growth as the increased temperature provides an ideal environment for bacteria.

Previously, header tanks on rainwater harvesting systems were located in roof spaces enabling rainwater to gravity feed to points of use. Now, systems utlise a header tank in low-level plant spaces with an additional booster pump. This approach is now considered best practice.

Ultraviolet (UV) disinfection

Including UV disinfection in the design of your rainwater harvesting and greywater recycling system can reduce the risk of harmful bacteria reaching points of use.

Ultraviolet disinfection is a chemical-free, low-maintenance cleansing solution where water is passed over UV light to deactivate any harmful cells. UV can also be retrofitted where not currently installed.

Mains water flush through

Rainwater harvesting and greywater recycling systems include a mains water top up function for periods of low rainfall. In low-quality systems, the top up function can create a dead leg providing an ideal environment for legionella growth.

Our intelligent control panel includes a mains water flush through feature where the solenoid valve will open every 24 hours for 30 seconds to prevent water from becoming stagnant in the pipework.
